When God created the world in six literal days, the Bible tells us He spoke it into existence: “And God said, ‘Let there be light … a firmament … waters gathered together (Genesis 1:3,6,9).’” The emphasis is on speaking, not doing.
When God interacted with Adam and Eve in the garden, He did so verbally (e.g. He commanded, He said). When He entered the scene after their disobedient act, He did so via the word (”Where are you?”). Adam’s response? “I heard Your voice … and I was afraid” (3:9).
Fast forward two thousand years. Notice how John records the birth of Christ: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (1:14). What record has God left us? The written Word of God (Revelation 22:18ff)!
Fast forward another two thousand years. Are words still important? Jesus answers: “for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment” (Matthew 12:36). Your words still matter!
