A Minute With Pastor — 05/17/2009
Want to relate to at least one billion people in the world? Then try this visual challenge. Get rid of all your furniture except for a table and chairs; use blankets for beds. Give away all your clothing except an old shirt, pants and a pair of shoes. Empty all the food from your home but keep a few items like flour, potatoes, onions and beans. Shut off all running water and disable the electricity. Move the family into a tool shed and move that tool shed to a shantytown. Cancel all subscriptions; after all, you can’t read anyway. Share one radio with the entire shantytown. Move the nearest hospital ten miles away and put a midwife in charge instead of a doctor. Toss out all bankbooks, stock certificates, pension plans, and insurance policies. Keep ten dollars for the family. Raise crops on a few acres, one-third of which goes to the landlord. Finally, shorten your life expectancy by twenty-five years.
Friend, count your blessings. Too often we forget!
