For some, He’s the big guy upstairs. For others, He’s the good luck charm under their pillow or in their pocket. For still others, He’s the emergency backup plan when everything goes wrong. In some movies, He’s a mere man (e.g. Evan Almighty). Such practices and characterizations do much to cause us to limit and constrain the God of the universe.
If we’re not watchful, we may become a bit careless and haphazard with how we revere and honor the King of kings and Lord of lords. Instead of being awed by His holiness and fearful of His power, we reduce Him in our thoughts to a mere god operating at a distance.
How so? By treating sin flippantly, by engaging in worship ritualistically, by praying casually, by reading His Word sporadically, and by preferring to live life independently. May we ponder anew the greatness of God today! It’ll revolutionize your Christian walk.
