It lies in wait for an emergency. Long periods of time pass without even one glance or even one thought about this important device. Yet, when it’s time arrives, it is expected to be in perfect condition, ready to be used. It’s none other than the spare tire!
That picture is, unfortunately, also true for prayer. Too often we neglect and bypass its importance, until that is, when we face an emergency. Then we expect it to be in perfect operating order, “all systems go,” so that it will get us out of a tough situation. Have you recently examined the condition of your prayer life? Are you reverting to it only in time of emergency?
What a valuable resource in the Christian life to take for granted and put on autopilot! Use it often, for it allows you to address the King of the universe, the God of creation, the Redeemer of your soul!
