Adversity comes in all directions and sizes.  For the child, it may be not getting the gift he wanted at Christmas.  For the teen, it may be not making the final cut for the team.  For the young adult, it may be the breakup of a relationship.  For the older adult, it may be the loss of physical mobility.  Indeed, adversity is alive and well.

When it hits, the believer has the precious privilege to enter into the presence of God in prayer and to pour out his petition to the Lord.  We have a God who cares and a God who commands us to cast all our cares upon Him because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7).

Since God gives good gifts (James 1:17), would He not want me to receive only good?  Job saw through the fallacy of such thinking (Job 2:10).  God allows (and brings) adversity in our life as a faith builder.  But ponder this: Should you purposely pray that God would be pleased to send adversity your way to refine and purify you?
