Are you not thankful for the sun? On a cold day, it removes the chill in your bones. On a cloudy day, its appearance lifts your spirits. In the early hours of the morning, it arrives to line your path with light. And for skin enthusiasts, it coats the body with a beautiful tan.
Obviously, we could not live without the sun. We’d have polar conditions twenty-four hours a day that would prohibit life from existing. Not only could we not survive, neither would vegetation which is utterly dependent on its presence.
In fact, the lack of it during certain seasons has contributed to man’s bouts with depression and anxiety. Our bodies greatly benefit from the Vitamin D that we derive from the sun’s rays. We really do need the sun.
But we really, really need the Son. As vital as the sun, it has a limited shelf life. The last book of the Bible explains this truth as it describes heaven: “And there shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light” (Revelation 22:5).
In heaven, the sun is unnecessary because the Son is present. In a land where we revere the sun, have we missed the Son? The sun benefits in the here and now, but the Son benefits both now and forevermore. Which one do you worship? Which one do you look to for your real joy? Only One rose to change you!
