We look for it in a million places. A quiet uninterrupted night at home. A different job with no demanding bosses. A family reunion without conflict and debates. A world without wars and battles. Ten minutes in the shower without the intrusion of little children. A muzzle on the perpetually barking dog next door. A routine doctor’s appointment with no dismal discoveries.
Peace. We passionately look for it under every seat cushion and in every nook and cranny. At times, we even look for peace through people. If only I had a spouse who loved me. If only my neighbor would turn down his loud music. If only I had quieter kids. If only my friends were more sensitive. If only …
The ever-evasive commodity of peace we so desperately desire yet seldom acquire. Could it be that instead of things or even people, we should look to a certain Person for this supply? In the Old Testament, the Bible prophesied His arrival: “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given … And His name will be called … Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). Then, after He came, the New Testament announces: “For He Himself is our peace … He came and preached peace” (Ephesians 2:14,17).
Jesus is the answer in your pursuit of peace. Come to Jesus and you will experience the peace of God that passes all understanding” (Philippians 4:7). What are you waiting for? Peace is at your door.
