Tummy tucks, facelifts, Botox injections, wrinkle treatments, unsightly skin extractions, and a whole host of other cosmetic matters usually make us look better but truth is, they are only ever temporal. Guess what? You still will pass off this earth on the appointed day, albeit looking slightly better. But a lifeless body is still a lifeless body!
You still with me? Sorry for such a bleak, insensitive introductory paragraph. Yet so many invest so much in what matters for so little time. Why not instead turn your attention to something that really matters for a substantially longer time frame?
Eternity remains the destiny of every person ever born. Though we will pass from this earth after an average lifespan of 70-80 years (which Noah declared thousands of years ago in Psalm 90:10), we will awake to an eternity either with the Lord or apart from Him. That should get our attention – or at least some of it.
While the benefits of this life are short-lived, the benefits of eternity are eternally-lived. What’s more, they can be enjoyed even now while we reside on planet earth. Whereas an inheritance is usually in the future, our spiritual inheritance is both present and futuristic. How incredible that even while we exist in these earth suits, we can enjoy our eternal blessings. So, are you? Or, have you settled for the temporary only?
