With all the attractions and amenities in life, it’s easy to see why we lose focus of the task at hand and soon find ourselves driving down a side road to a destination we quickly forget. All of us get easily distracted from passing billboards, side remarks, sudden sounds, pressing demands, critical concerns, visiting family, emergency calls, occasional interruptions, unhappy kids, and annoying motorists.
How important it is as followers of Christ to keep our eyes fixed on Christ. While many things may vie for our attention, He should receive our main attention. While temporal matters may be important, eternal matters should be essential. And while earthly situations should concern us, heavenly matters should consume us.
Colossians 3:1-2 provides great counsel to all of us who occasionally lose focus:
“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”
In a world of distraction, purpose to keep Christ as the main attraction. This world and everything in it is passing away. Be careful of sinking your tent pegs too deep into the temporary terrain. This is not your home.
