Many people want the responsibility and yet, do not necessarily want to be held responsible. We want to be in charge, we want to be in authority, but when our decisions are questioned or critiqued, when our choices are not the best, we default to:
If it wasn’t for ____, I would have done better.
If I had the resources that ____ does, this wouldn’t have happened.
If you wouldn’t be so difficult, I could handle this.
We love excuses. We find it easy to pass the buck and blame others. Yet before we consider the people beside us or the circumstances around us, we must look inward. We should examine our own heart before we speculate and judge others.
Take this test: When you look in a mirror, who do you see? This is the person you live with, this is the person you are responsible for, this is the person who will stand before God one day and give an account. No one else is in that mirror.
While God will do what only He can do, we must do what we can do. Choose to live responsibly as you navigate the twists and turns of this day. Fear God and keep His commands!
