Some rather dark and dubious moments fill the Bible. When Adam and Eve first sinned and shame entered, what happened next? God clothed them both in their nakedness. When Jonah rejected his mission to go to Ninevah with the good news, he was tossed overboard into the sea. What happened next? God provided a great fish that afforded a three-day stay of safety in the depths of the water. God and rescue go hand in hand.
But the greatest rescue of all-time came at a tomb. On the third day after Jesus died on a cross, He walked right out of that hole in the mountain. Death could not hold Him and the grave could not keep Him. He arose victoriously and so too all who believe on Him for salvation.
Thankfully, we do not have to remain enslaved to sin. Jesus came to set the captives free. Christians no longer have to sin. We have been set free to live no longer for ourselves but for the One who died for us. How amazing that we can bring glory to God from our choices and decisions today!
Yet, even when we are slow to understand, even when we fall into the same transgression hours later, even when we miss His answer to our prayer, God is patient. How encouraging that He does not discard us and never will abandon us. Indeed, He sticks with us both now and throughout all eternity. You’ve truly never had a friend like Him!
