Most of life is rather quite visual.
We look down at the gas gauge to decide if we need to take an exit sooner or later
We smell something putrid coming from the refrigerator and know it’s time to clear out some leftovers
We hear the car alarm sounding so we look out the window to see if it’s ours
We rub our hand on the wall and realize we will need to sand before we paint
This is our constant conditioning. Our senses don’t usually betray us as they provide the added info we need to work through what lies before us. We’re humans and this is how we do life.
But when we pivot ninety degrees, this isn’t necessarily the only or even the best approach. Scripture exhorts us to walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). We fix our eyes on the unseen, not the seen, since that which is seen is temporary whereas the unseen is eternal (2 Corinthians 4:18).
How difficult that is, right? After all, what’s seen is usually in our control. So don’t first listen to the earthly experts who compute your net worth. Instead, consult the treasure chest of God’s Word to determine your true standing. That’s backed by God!
