“Castaway” is a movie that primarily takes place on a deserted island as one man finds himself stranded alone for several years. Isolated from the rest of the world, he even resorts to naming a volleyball and becoming friends with it.
What does that tell you about life? We were made to enjoy relationships. After God created
the very first man, He issued this remark: “It is not good that man should be alone. I will make him a helper comparable to him.” And with that, He fashioned Eve and the rest is history.
We really do need each other. And yet, anytime you bring imperfect people with differing
ideas together the sparks will fly, but ultimately we stretch and grow and benefit. We each could likely name a dozen or so friends that we really connect with but truth is, most of us have only two or three real friends.
What about you? Are you a friend indeed to a person in need? Do you purpose to be there for that individual, to speak the truth in love, to risk being transparent, and to stay close when all others check out? Be a friend, a real friend, to someone today.
But most importantly, do not overlook the one true friend who came into this world to offer up His life on a cross for your sins. He loved you before you were lovely. He drew near before you asked. Jesus is the one Friend you do not want to live without.
